Jefferson County DUI & Traffic Court Guide

Jefferson Combined Court in Golden, Lakewood Municipal Court and Arvada Municipal Court are separate systems. Lakewood and Arvada police can issue citations returnable to a county court, so match the full caption, address and charge.

Which court is on your paperwork?

Match the full court name, address and issuing agency.

The state courthouse is at the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden. Lakewood and Arvada operate municipal courts for city-code matters, but the city or issuing agency alone does not identify the correct clerk.

Do not rely on the city or county name alone.

Jefferson Combined Court publishes different front-counter, telephone, email and records-counter hours. Lakewood currently conducts municipal traffic cases virtually. Follow the exact court and current appearance instruction—not a general website link.

A Lakewood or Arvada citation may still belong in a county court.

Lakewood’s official page says its police agents also write citations into Jefferson County Court. Arvada’s court page says a citation written within Arvada may be handled by Jefferson County Court or Adams County Court. The caption and address—not the city name—control the next official contact.

Three destinations · separate authority

Identify the court before relying on a Golden, Lakewood or Arvada procedure.

The city where a stop occurred and the agency that issued the citation are useful clues, but the complete caption, court address, case number and current notice identify the clerk responsible for the case.

01

Colorado Judicial Branch

Jefferson Combined Court

The state courthouse is at 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden. Use its clerk when the papers name Jefferson County Court, Jefferson District Court, Jefferson Combined Court or the 1st Judicial District.

The Judicial Branch publishes department-specific contacts, including a separate criminal-case telephone number. Give the clerk the full case number and division. Do not use a municipal portal to search, file or pay a Jefferson County case.

02

City of Lakewood

Lakewood Municipal Court

Lakewood Municipal Court is a city court at 445 S. Allison Parkway. It handles alleged violations of the Lakewood Municipal Code. The city also says Lakewood Police agents write some citations into Jefferson County Court.

Lakewood currently states that its municipal traffic cases operate virtually, while other case types are in person unless the court approves otherwise. The case-specific notice and participation instructions control.

03

City of Arvada

Arvada Municipal Court

Arvada Municipal Court is at 8101 Ralston Road. The city court handles alleged Arvada traffic, criminal-code, parking and other ordinance violations.

Arvada crosses county boundaries. Its official court page warns that even a citation written inside Arvada may be assigned to Jefferson County Court or Adams County Court. Match both the county and the court caption.

Review Arvada Municipal Court →
Step A

Copy the caption

Record Jefferson County, Lakewood Municipal or Arvada Municipal exactly as printed. Do not shorten it to “Jeffco court.”

Step B

Match the address

County Parkway, Allison Parkway and Ralston Road identify different buildings and court systems.

Step C

Confirm participation

Use the official clerk or case notice to verify the date and appearance method. A livestream or public watch page is not a participation link.

Procedures are not interchangeable

Jefferson County and Lakewood publish different access, filing and traffic instructions.

These details come from current official pages. They help a person find the correct process but do not advise whether to pay, plead, seek a continuance or appear in a particular manner.

Jefferson counter access

The state clerk publishes several different service windows.

Jefferson Combined Court currently lists front-counter hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to noon Friday. It separately lists telephone hours, email hours and more limited in-person Records-counter hours.

The clerk page says email addresses are for customer-service inquiries and that Jefferson County does not accept filings by email. Use the filing method authorized for the specific document rather than assuming an email was filed.

Check current state-court access →

State-court drop box

A drop box has its own timing and completeness rules.

The Judicial Branch says the Jefferson clerk’s drop box is in the main atrium and publishes access hours extending beyond the front counter. It also says items received before business opens are date-stamped for the previous business day.

The court warns that incomplete filings, or filings without proper payment or waiver, will be returned and that cash must not be placed in the box. This guide does not determine whether a particular document may or should be filed that way.

Read the current drop-box notice →

Lakewood virtual traffic

Virtual operation still requires the correct case link.

Lakewood’s current Municipal Court page says all traffic cases have shifted to virtual operations. That statement applies to Lakewood Municipal Court—not Jefferson Combined Court, Arvada Municipal Court or every citation written by Lakewood Police.

Use the participation information sent or published for the individual case. Lakewood also offers a public “watch a court session” feature. Watching a session is not the same as joining as a participant, and it does not change an ordered appearance.

Verify Lakewood’s current notice →

Lakewood payment meaning

An eligible mail-in offer is more than a convenience.

Lakewood’s official payment page says payment of an eligible mail-in fine agreement is a guilty plea to the original charge or offered amendment and waives legal rights. It also notes that applicable Colorado DMV points may be assessed.

Not every charge is eligible, and the city says a person who does not receive an agreement before the court date must appear as scheduled. This guide does not recommend payment, rejection or a plea; review the actual offer and possible consequences first.

Separate authorities · separate calendars

A Golden, Lakewood or Arvada court setting does not preserve a DMV deadline.

A DUI-related event may create a court case and a separate administrative license matter. A traffic resolution may also affect a driving record. Keep the court and DMV paperwork in separate timelines.

COURT

Follow the caption, division and latest order.

The summons, complaint and later notices identify the court date and participation method. A municipal portal cannot update a Jefferson County case, and the state docket does not replace a Lakewood or Arvada instruction.

Review the Colorado DUI court process →

DMV

Read testing and license documents independently.

The Colorado DMV administers hearing requests, restraints and reinstatement. The applicable response period depends on the triggering event and notice. Verify the current instructions without waiting for a court appearance.

Organize the file by court system—not only by city or police agency.

This checklist helps identify official destinations and preserve documents. It is general information, not advice about a plea, payment, appearance or individual deadline.

What should I know about the Jefferson Combined Court drop box?
